President Donald Trump plans to accept a super luxury Boeing 747-8 jumbo jet from the royal family of Qatar. He intends to use the aircraft as a temporary replacement for Air Force One — the official plane that transports the President of the United States.
According to aviation experts who spoke with ABC News, the estimated value of the aircraft is around $400 million, excluding the additional security modifications required to meet Air Force One standards.
On Sunday, May 11, Trump confirmed the plan in a post on Truth Social, calling the aircraft a "GIFT" and stating that it is "FREE OF CHARGE."
Describing the arrangement as a "very public and transparent transaction," Trump emphasized that the jet will serve as a temporary replacement for the current 40-year-old Air Force One aircraft.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt issued a statement to ABC News, noting, "Any gift given by a foreign government is always accepted in full compliance with all applicable laws. President Trump's Administration is committed to full transparency."
Trump had previously toured the plane in February at Palm Beach International Airport. At the conclusion of his term, he plans to transfer ownership of the aircraft to the Trump Presidential Library Foundation.
