The Sindh cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, has approved several significant policy changes, including a groundbreaking CNIC-based vehicle registration system that will transform how vehicles are registered in the province.
Education Sector Reforms
- MDCAT Examination: The Medical and Dental College Admission Test will now be exclusively conducted by IBA Sukkur
- Educational Boards Act: Amendments allow Grade 19 and 20 officers to serve as chairpersons of educational boards
Administrative Decisions
- Approval granted for registering government-seized vehicles with altered chassis numbers
- Establishment of new vehicle fitness testing centers across the province
- Final extension approved for COVID-19 pandemic technical and support staff contracts
Revolutionary Vehicle Registration System
The cabinet approved a transformative CNIC-based vehicle registration model that will:
- Link vehicle registration numbers to owners' Computerised National Identity Cards instead of chassis numbers
- Allow owners to retain personal number plates when selling vehicles
- Maintain chassis numbers as permanent vehicle identifiers while plates remain owner-specific
- Enable plate reuse or return to authorities at owner's discretion
Transfer Process: During vehicle sales, plates will be removed and can be either transferred to new owners or returned for potential auction/reissue.
The reforms mark a significant shift in provincial administration policies, particularly in vehicle registration which will now follow owner-centric rather than vehicle-centric principles.
