Honduras borders Guatemala, Nicaragua, and El Salvador. In the north, the country shares a wide coastline with the Caribbean Sea. To the south, it shares a small stretch with the Pacific Ocean. Several islands are also found off the coast of the country. Honduras is the second largest country in Central America after Nicaragua.
Honduras has four distinct regions: the central highlands, the Pacific lowlands, the eastern Caribbean lowlands, and the northern coastal plains and mountains. Honduras has an abundance of mountains, with peaks reaching 9,347 feet (2,849 m), although Honduras is the only country in Central America without volcanoes.
Its Population is about 10 M. As of 2014, 60% of Hondurans live below the poverty line. More than 30% of the population is divided between the lower middle and upper middle class, and less than 10% are wealthy or belong to the upper social class (most live in Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula).
