JAKARTA, Aug 14 (webdesk) – Chinese electric vehicle (EV) makers have taken a commanding lead in Indonesia’s EV market during the first seven months of 2025, according to figures from the Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO).
Top-Selling Brands
BYD ranked first with 16,427 units sold between January and July. Popular models like the M6, Sealion 7, Atto 3, Seal, and Dolphin boosted its performance. In late July, BYD also unveiled its newest city car, the Atto 1, at the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show, starting at 195 million rupiahs (about USD 12,080).
BYD’s premium sub-brand Denza took second place with 6,256 units sold. Wuling followed closely with 6,210 units, while Chery sold 5,196 units and Aion completed the top five with 3,126 units.
Market Growth
From January to July 2025, Indonesia recorded 42,178 electric car sales, nearly matching the 43,188 units sold in all of 2024. This shows rapid growth in the country’s shift towards electric mobility.
Government Commitment
The Indonesian government has committed to reducing carbon emissions by encouraging a transition from fossil fuels to clean energy, with EV adoption playing a major role in that plan.
