The Sindh government is moving forward with a big transport project called the Peoples Green Transport Project. As part of this plan, 1,000 electric buses will run in Karachi.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah approved hiring expert consultants to help make the project faster and better. This decision was made in a meeting of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Policy Board.
The meeting included Sharjeel Inam Memon, Saeed Ghani, Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, and other senior officials.
Officials said the project passed the technical check and supports green transport. To save time, the government will keep working with the consultants already chosen.
The consultants will review a proposal from a private company. If the plan is good, the project will start in steps through a public-private partnership.
The plan includes 600 buses (12 meters) and 400 buses (8 meters). They will run for 10 years and be paid based on how many kilometers they travel.
Ten bus depots will be built to help run the buses smoothly. After 10 years, the buses will become the property of the government.
The board also talked about two other major projects:
- Shahrah-e-Bhutto high-speed road – a 39 km road from Korangi Creek Avenue to the M-9 Motorway.
- Dhabeji Special Economic Zone – an industrial development project.
