Iran’s President visits Pakistan
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Islamabad for a two-day official visit focused on boosting cooperation between Iran and Pakistan. The trip started in Lahore, where he was received by Punjab leaders, including Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
In Islamabad, President Pezeshkian received a formal welcome at Noor Khan Air Base with a 21-gun salute. He was welcomed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and other senior officials.
The President is accompanied by Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and a senior government delegation.
Focus of the Visit
President Pezeshkian is scheduled to meet President Asif Ali Zardari and participate in bilateral talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. These discussions will address key areas such as:
- Trade and investment
- Border cooperation
- Transport and connectivity
- Peace and regional development
Before the visit, the Iranian President stated that his top priority is to increase trade between Iran and Pakistan to $10 billion. He also emphasized strengthening cross-border commerce and security cooperation.
Interest in CPEC
Iran expressed interest in joining the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which could connect Iran to markets in Europe and Central Asia through Pakistan. The Iranian leadership believes this would boost regional trade and infrastructure development.
Message of Partnership
President Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to working closely with Pakistan. He stressed that efforts to damage relations between the two countries would fail and highlighted the importance of mutual trust and long-term cooperation.
