Hiramundi is an epic series based on the courtesans of Lahore, set in pre-independence India. The series will explore the hidden cultural reality of Hiramandi, a district in Lahore, and promises to be a grand and multi-dimensional series with stories of love, betrayal, politics, and succession. The show will have all the trademarks of a Bhansali film, including grand sets, elaborate compositions, and a plethora of characters.

According to sources, Netflix is planning to convert Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming limited series Hiramandi into a seasonal show. The first season of the series will consist of eight episodes and it is expected that all the episodes will not be released simultaneously. Instead, each episode will be like an individual movie, to be enjoyed. The series is described as the digital equivalent of K Asif's Mughal Azam, with every frame a work of art. The show is slowly becoming one of the best digital experiences to originate from Asia.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who recently completed 25 years in the industry, is partnering with Netflix for the series. Hiramandi is a major milestone in his journey as a filmmaker, and he is nervous but excited to make it. He looks forward to his partnership with Netflix and bringing Hiramandi to audiences around the world.

Elaborating on the planning, a source close to the project says, "The initial plan was to do a limited series. But everyone felt that the series had the potential to turn into a seasonal event. The eight-episode first season is slated for 2023. will be aired in the second half (month and date yet to be decided).

It is Bhansali's first digital debut with Netflix and stars Sonakshi Sehna, Sinha, Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Richa Chadha in lead roles. Apart from this, it will also signal the return of actor Fardeen Khan to showbiz. According to sources, Hiramandi was set in the same place where Gangubai Kathiyawari was. Like a play, it tells eight different stories in the style of a full-length feature film.
