Google's Innovative 'Circle to Search' Feature Set to Transform Mobile Search Experience on Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Galaxy S24 Series

Google has introduced a new feature called "Circle to Search," set to launch officially on January 31 for the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Samsung's Galaxy S24 series. This feature simplifies searching by allowing users to circle or highlight an item on their phone screen, tap a button, and instantly receive Google search results related to the selected content. Initially available on select premium Android phones, Circle to Search eliminates the need for additional steps like taking screenshots, making it a seamless and convenient search experience.

While similar to Google Lens, Circle to Search distinguishes itself by offering the functionality anywhere on the device without the need to open a separate app. Users can activate it by long-pressing the home button for three-button navigation or the navigation handle for gesture navigation. This feature supports circling, highlighting, or tapping on subjects, whether they are text or images.

In addition to Circle to Search, Google has enhanced its multisearch feature. Multisearch, an existing Lens feature, enables users to modify visual searches by adding descriptors. For example, taking a photo of white shoes and adding the word "red" refines the search to show red shoes. With the update, users can now pose complex questions to refine visual searches. For instance, a photo of a plant can be accompanied by the question, "How often should I water this?" This expanded functionality aims to provide more insightful answers beyond simple identification.

The upgraded multisearch feature is available in the Google app starting immediately for both Android and iOS devices, although initially limited to users in the United States. Circle to Search, on the other hand, is set to debut on the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Galaxy S24 series on January 31, with plans for expansion to other select premium Android phones.
