A passenger train derailed in Russia's northern Komi region, resulting in the deaths of two people and injuries to 40 others, according to Russian Railways.
The incident, involving the Vorkuta-Novorossiysk train, led to the discovery of two bodies at the derailment site, as reported by the company on Telegram.
The Russian Health Ministry confirmed that among the injured, seven are in critical condition. Initially, Russian Railways had reported 70 injuries, but many were minor bruises and cuts.
The train, consisting of 14 cars, saw nine overturn during the accident. A total of 232 people were on board at the time.
While the exact cause of the derailment is still unclear, heavy rainfall possibly washed away the railway embankment, contributing to the incident.
