A Pakistani fighter jet made by China reportedly shot down at least two Indian military aircraft on Wednesday, according to two U.S. officials who spoke anonymously to Reuters.
One of the officials said there is high confidence that a J-10 fighter jet, supplied by China and operated by the Pakistan Air Force, was used to fire air-to-air missiles during the clash with Indian jets. The official added that two Indian aircraft were shot down, including a French-made Rafale jet.
India has not admitted losing any aircraft. Instead, Indian officials claimed that they carried out successful airstrikes on what they called “terrorist infrastructure” inside Pakistani territory.
Meanwhile, in France, Dassault Aviation, the company that makes the Rafale jets, and MBDA, the manufacturer of the Meteor missile system used on those jets, did not respond to requests for comment due to a national holiday.
