Apple is planning to launch a more affordable MacBook that will be powered by an iPhone chip. This new device is expected to use the A18 Pro chip and feature a 13-inch display.
The MacBook will likely be available in silver, blue, pink, and yellow. Reports say that signs of this device were discovered last summer in Apple Intelligence’s backend code. After confirming the use of the A18 Pro chip, the system identified the device as “Mac17,1”.
This would be the first MacBook to run on an iPhone chip instead of Apple’s M-series chips. While M-series processors support higher memory, better displays, and more CPU cores, the A18 Pro chip is expected to lack support for Thunderbolt ports and multiple external displays.
The new MacBook will likely have 8 GB of unified memory, making it an entry-level option. Apple may also use the same design as the M1 MacBook Air to help reduce costs. This will make the new model clearly different from the more advanced MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models.
