China's Maglev Train - Faster Than Airplane - Covers 1,200km in 150 Minutes

Faster Than Airplane - Covers 1,200km in 150 Minutes

China has introduced a superfast Maglev train that can travel between Beijing and Shanghai in just 2.5 hours (150 minutes). This is much faster than the current 5.5-hour journey by high-speed rail.

Top Speed of 600 km/h

The new Maglev train reaches a top speed of 600 kilometers per hour. It was officially shown at the 17th Modern Railways Exhibition in China.

Amazing fact: the train can reach this speed in just 7 seconds.

Maglev Train Is Faster Than a Plane

Unlike normal trains, Maglev technology uses magnetic fields to lift the train off the track. This removes friction and allows smooth, quiet, and very fast movement.

During a recent test in June at Donghu Laboratory in Hubei Province, a 1.1-ton Maglev train reached 404 mph in under 7 seconds on a short test track.

In an earlier test in 2023, the train reached over 620 mph inside a vacuum tube. That’s even faster than many commercial airplanes, which fly at around 547–575 mph.

The train uses high-temperature superconducting levitation to float without touching the track, allowing for silent and frictionless travel.

Full High-Speed Track by End of 2025

Engineers expect to finish the full high-speed Maglev track by the end of 2025, according to Newsweek.

What Does the Maglev Train Look Like?

The new train was built by China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC). It has a sleek and aerodynamic design with a pointed nose to reduce air resistance.

State broadcaster CCTV showed the train's modern interior, with a spacious cabin and large digital screens. The design is both futuristic and comfortable.

China’s Future of High-Speed Travel

This high-speed Maglev train is one of several advanced transport projects in China. With this new technology, rail travel may soon become faster than flying.
