Pakistan Cricketer Haider Ali Arrested in UK

Haider Ali, a 24-year-old Pakistani cricketer, has been arrested in the United Kingdom on suspicion of rape. The arrest was made by Greater Manchester Police, and he has been released on bail while the investigation continues. Haider is currently in the UK and will not be joining the Pakistan Shaheens team in Australia as originally planned. For the T20 series Allrounder Mohammad Faiq has been named as his replacement.

Details of the Case
Police say they received a report on 4 August 2025 about an incident that allegedly happened on 23 July 2025 at a location in Manchester. Officers confirmed that the victim is receiving official support. In the UK, a rape conviction can lead to a life sentence.

In Beckenham Haider Ali was taken into custody, where the tem was playing Last Match of a five-game tour of England. He had played in all five matches, including games on 22 July and 25 July, which took place just before and after the alleged offence.

PCB’s Action
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that Haider is facing a criminal investigation in the UK. They have suspended him from all cricket activities until the matter is resolved. The PCB said it respects the UK’s legal system and is providing Haider with legal assistance during the process.

Haider Ali’s Cricket Career
Haider has represented Pakistan in two One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 35 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). He first caught attention during the 2020 Pakistan Super League (PSL) while playing for Peshawar Zalmi, scoring 239 runs at an impressive strike rate of over 157. Later that year, he made his international debut in Manchester, hitting a half-century off 33 balls in a T20I win against England.

Despite showing great potential as a power hitter, Haider’s career has been inconsistent, with frequent changes in his selection status. The recent Shaheens tour was seen as an opportunity for him to secure a place in Pakistan’s aggressive T20 setup.
