A special ceremony was held in Islamabad on Wednesday night to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day along with the commemoration of “Marka-i-Haq” (Battle of Truth). The event brought together top civil and military leaders, showing the nation’s strength, unity, and pride.
Leadership in Attendance
Among the dignitaries present at the event were:
- President Asif Ali Zardari
- Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif
- Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir
- Federal and state ministers
- Senior military officers
- Foreign representatives
Also attending were First Lady Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani, and National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.
Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), was also present along with other key officials and foreign dignitaries.
Military Display and Flypast
The celebrations featured parades by the Pakistan Armed Forces. Military units from Turkiye and Azerbaijan also took part in the parade. A spectacular fly-by of fighter jets lit up the night sky with bright flares, adding excitement and pride to the event.
The ceremony was held at Jinnah Sports Stadium, where all the senior officials and guests gathered to witness the event.
Unveiling of Marka-i-Haq Monument
During the event, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif unveiled the Marka-i-Haq Monument. This monument stands as a symbol of Pakistan’s commitment to truth, resilience, and national pride.
Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal said that the celebrations under the “Marka-i-Haq” name were designed to honour the courage, unity, and sacrifices of the Pakistani people.
Background of Marka-i-Haq
The term “Marka-i-Haq” refers to the military conflict with India that took place from April 22 to May 10, 2025. This conflict started after the Pahalgam attack.
India responded with airstrikes on Pakistan, leading to a series of missile exchanges and civilian casualties. A US-brokered ceasefire eventually brought an end to the fighting. This marked a major turning point in both regional diplomacy and military defense.
Nationwide Independence Day Celebrations
Across the country, Independence Day festivities are in full swing. Public events, rallies, and patriotic displays are happening in all regions.
Shakarparian Parade Ground – Islamabad
In Shakarparian Parade Ground, Islamabad, military equipment is on display. People can view fighter jets, tanks, artillery guns, and radar systems, showing the strength of Pakistan’s defense forces.
Punjab
In the province of Punjab, cities such as Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, Jhang, and Narowal are celebrating with local rallies and Independence Day events.
Sindh
In Sindh, celebrations are taking place in Sukkur, Hyderabad, Jacobabad, Thatta, and Badin, with people taking part in patriotic activities and local parades.
Balochistan
Balochistan is also celebrating the day with rallies and public gatherings in Naseerabad, Jaffarabad, Sibi, Bolan, Sohbatpur, Lehri, and Gwadar.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, special Independence Day events are being organized. A unique celebration was held for the minority community at the Mardan Commissioner’s Office. Preparations are also at their peak in the district of Karak.
Azad Kashmir
In Azad Kashmir, the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir in Muzaffarabad hosted colorful celebrations. In Mirpur, a special ‘Martyrs’ Honour March’ was held to pay tribute to the nation’s fallen heroes.
The Islamabad ceremony and national celebrations reflect Pakistan’s unity, strength, and enduring spirit on its 78th Independence Day.
