Pakistan and Iran Renew Cooperation on IP Gas Pipeline

Iran and Pakistan have strengthened their cooperation, to deepen ties and promote peace and prosperity in the region. During Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's recent visit to Pakistan, the two nations pledged to accelerate the process to finalize a free trade agreement (FTA) and transform their shared border into a "border of peace and friendship."

Recognizing their historical, cultural and religious ties, both sides are committed to strengthening mutual interaction through regular high-level visits and promoting academic, cultural and tourism activities. They underlined the importance of cooperation in fighting common threats such as terrorism, drug trafficking and human trafficking.

On the economic level, Iran and Pakistan have agreed to expand trade and economic cooperation, with the aim of increasing bilateral trade to 10 billion dollars over the next five years. They committed to creating joint economic projects, including border markets and economic free zones, and to quickly finalize the FTA. Furthermore, cooperation in the energy sector was highlighted, including the IP Gas Pipeline project.

Recognizing their role in regional connectivity, both nations expressed their firm resolve to strengthen cooperation in infrastructure development and energy sectors, including between the twin ports of Gwadar and Chahbahar. They underlined the importance of resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomacy, including the Kashmir issue, based on international law and popular will.

Both Iran and Pakistan have condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, underlining the need for a collaborative approach to counter this threat while maintaining the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity. They also condemned Israeli aggression against Palestinians and called for an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian access to Gaza, along with a just and comprehensive solution based on the aspirations of the Palestinian people.

The two nations reaffirmed their commitment to the development of Afghanistan as a peaceful, sovereign and independent state, free from terrorism and drug trafficking. They underlined the importance of inclusive decision-making in Afghanistan to strengthen peace and stability.

Iran and Pakistan also agreed to release each other's prisoners and cooperate on extradition based on existing agreements. They condemned the attacks on diplomatic facilities, including the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus, and called for respect for international law.
